The Southern Lights Street Lighting project is a collaborative initiative involving 42 Councils across the Canberra Region Joint Organisation, Central NSW Joint Organisation, RAMJO Joint Organisation, REROC and including  Broken Hill, Balranald and Wentworth Councils.

The purpose of this project is to transition up to 80,000 street lights across southern New South Wales to the latest technology LED lighting and to incorporate smart control devices which have capacity to manage and monitor the lights themselves, as well as undertaking a range of other Smart City type data gathering and analysis.
