Food Waste

When Food Waste is sent to landfill, it significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.  Diverting food waste from landfill is an effective way to cut emissions and also create a resource, such as compost products to be used in other applications.

The Australian Government has a target to halve food waste by 2030 which has instigated a NSW statewide mandate for Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) to be recycled.  These mandates require businesses to separate food waste from 2026, depending on the amount of waste generated.

Business Food Waste Partnerships

The Business Food Waste Partnership program raises awareness for food related businesses with the knowledge and skills in food waste reduction, source separation and best practice.

The program will empower and educate businesses within the RAMJO region for food waste separation practices, required as a part up the upcoming NSW mandate.  Information workshops will be available for businesses to be prepared for the mandate changes.

This project is an initiative of the NSW Environment Protection Authority under the NSW Government’s Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy, and is funded from the waste levy.
