Workforce Development

RAMJO aim to strengthen regional workforce capacity by advocating for skills pathways, inclusive migration programs, and training infrastructure that supports current and future labour needs across the RAMJO region.

In order to achieve this RAMJO seeks to:

Expand Regional Training and Learning Access

  • Support the establishment and expansion of Regional University Study Hubs and advocate for the reactivation or adaptive reuse of existing Connected Learning Centres to improve local access to vocational and tertiary education.
  • Support expanded access to vocational education, TAFE, and university partnerships through Regional University Study Hubs and the “Grow Our Own” initiative
  • Collaborate with training providers and councils to align skills delivery with local industry needs

Support Workforce Migration and Retention

  • Advocate for flexible and regionally responsive use of the DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement) to address workforce shortages
  • Promote regional settlement programs that support skilled migrants and their families, including language and housing
    supports 
  • Align workforce advocacy with enabling infrastructure needs (housing, transport, childcare)

Integrate Workforce into Strategic Planning

  • Promote integration of workforce priorities into precinct planning, industry strategies, and regional investment initiatives
  • Highlight workforce impacts in planning decisions and funding submissions across transport, health, housing, and digital access
  • Labour force participation and unemployment rates (regional average) 
  • TAFE and university enrolment and completion rates across RAMJO LGAs 
  • Number of migrants placed through DAMA or other skilled migration programs 
  • Number of Regional University Hubs and Reactivation or funding support for Connected Learning Centres or study hubs
  • Workforce alignment reflected in major regional investment strategies or funding bids
